Divorce can be devastating and make you hesitant to rejoin the world of the dating. The pain of losing the person you thought you would spend forever with might be too much to bear.
It’s understandable, and you are within your rights to grieve that loss of a relationship. But when you are ready, here are some tips on how to create a stellar dating profile.
Step 1. Be Positive
When you’re ready to get back out into the world and start dating again, dating websites are the best place to go because you can ease back into the swing of things when you are just trying to test the waters. As you are filling out your dating profile, you want it to be positive and upbeat. You should certainly mention some of your favorite past times and hobbies. Remember that you want to create an image of what a day in your life would be like, so be as descriptive as possible instead of just saying that you enjoy cooking. You’ll want to avoid using any language that could hint that you’re bitter, or you still have some left-over feelings for your ex.
Step 2. Avoid The Ex
While you may want to include that you are divorced, you don’t want to mention any other details than that. You might want to forego talking about any dating experiences you may have had after the divorce as well, especially if those dates didn’t go so well. Avoid making comments like, “Waiting for my Prince Charming” or “I have horrible luck with women” because it just shows that you either have really high expectations, you are jaded, or you are so incredibly picky that no one will make you happy.
Step 3. Be Unique
Just like a snowflake, no two dating profiles should be the same. So naturally you have to make your profile stand out! How you do this is up to you. You could talk about a trip you took that left an impression on you. You could mention how you took care of your mother while she was recovering from a serious surgery. You could even go so far and share a story of how you became head of the neighborhood watch. Whatever makes you special, you’ll want to include it in your profile.
Step 4. Be Honest
While you are going through the profile, you may find some areas where you’ll want to embellish so that you seem more alluring to prospected suitors. This embellishment could be anywhere from your shoe size to your income, to your career or how you really feel about politics. You don’t want to start off any relationship based on a lie, so you’re better off with just being honest right off the bat. You know what they say about the truth always coming out to bite you in the butt later on, right? Needless to say, you don’t want to have to try and explain why you lied about something so small when the truth finally does come out.
